Many religions have faith in the hereafter once an individual is deceased. Cryonics
believes that deceased individuals who were beheaded, frozen, and preserved at some point would be returned again to life.
However, from a biblical perspective, this form of restoration could never occur.
This biblical perspective
is only being introduced because a former CEO and President of the cryonics firm in Arizona is religious and an Elder
in his Seventh Day Adventist Church. He held his cryonics position for 20 months, and as reported by that organization
resigned in August 2005 remaining on the Board until a successor was found.
The firm's website noted, "...he came
to Arizona in December 1997 and soon began volunteering for various projects. In December 2003, he was selected
as CEO and President of the foundation and elected to the Board of Directors. He considers the long-term protection
and preservation of our patients his most important duty, as well as the continued advancement of the quality of cryopreservation
capability."
The firm's announcement further indicated, "He is also a community volunteer and active Elder in the
Seventh Day Adventist Church in downtown Phoenix."
There exists a conflict between the church and cryonics regarding the
hereafter, which is the disposition of an individual's soul or spirit of life once the body is deceased.
Seventh
Day Adventists, as well as fundamentalist Christians and orthodox Hebrews, respect the Bible as the word of God. Two well-known passages address the hereafter confirming its existence, and
deceased individuals do not return for there is a "great chasm."
The following passages were in an article from July
11, 2006 which is also posted on this website.
”Jesus said this to the Sadducees who did not believe in
the afterlife, and by His words demonstrated that it does exist.”
Matthew 22:31-33
"’And as for
the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was said to you by God, ~I Am the God of Abraham, and the
God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.~? He is not God of the dead, but of the living.’"
"’And
when the crowd heard it, they were astonished at His teaching.’"
. .
.
And...
”Jesus said this to Pharisees on conditions in the afterlife.”
Luke
16:26.
"’And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, in order that those
who would pass from here to you may not be able, and none may cross from there to us.’"
.
. .
In addition, there are specific statements of Fundamental Beliefs, which are held as biblical
truths by Seventh Day Adventists.
STATEMENTS OF FUNDAMENTAL BELIEFS OF THE SEVENTH DAY ADVENTIST CHURCH
"Seventh-day
Adventists accept the Bible as their only creed and hold certain fundamental beliefs to be the teaching of the Holy
Scriptures. These beliefs, as set forth here, constitute the church's understanding and expression of the
teaching of Scripture."
Belief #26
"The wages
of sin is death. But God, who alone is immortal, will grant eternal life to His redeemed. Until that
day death is an unconscious state for all people. When Christ, who is our life, appears, the resurrected
righteous and the living righteous will be glorified and caught up to meet their Lord. The second resurrection,
the resurrection of the unrighteous, will take place a thousand years later."
Only Jesus can reawaken
souls from the dead and not cryonics.
